A SWEET EXPERIMENT

I usually do experiments of the mad scientist variety, well actually it is a little more mundane than that, but at home I tried out an experiment that was a little more domestic in nature.

I am sure you all have seen those wonderful cookie bouquets available for special occasions. To me, they all look so pretty and yummy I thought I might do a little experimenting and see what I could come up with. The inspiration came from another new stamp set called Hello Go-rounds from The Greeting Farm which will be available August 1st (tomorrow, yeah!).

Now, I am not much of a cook and most of my attempts at cake decorating have pretty much been a disaster and, as in many of my at-work experiments, I wasn't quite sure how things would work out. I have lots of grand ideas but many of them end up in the circular file so, come on into my lab and see how things went down.

First off, here is my motherly warning, if you are going to try this PLEASE do not use stamps you have used with regular ink. Get separate sets of stamps that will be specifically dedicated to one use or the other. I used a brand new stamp set that was washed with dish soap.

STUFF I USED

Sugar cookies - I used a pre-mixed package type
Gourmet Writer - these are special food decorating markers, I got mine at Cake Art Party Store
Cookie Cutter
Fondant - I used pre-made from Wilton, I think I got it at Michaels or Wal mart
Cuttlebug embossing folder - wash it thoroughly with dish soap before use
Color mist - decorating spray color, Michaels
Lollipop sticks - Walmart
powdered sugar, light corn syrup

STEP ONE
Cut out your cookies. I found it was much better to bake a solid sheet of cookie dough and then after it cooled slightly, cut out my flower shape. The cookies spread too much if I cut the shape out of the dough and then baked them as one traditionally would.

STEP TWO
The Fondant. Take it out of the foil and place it in a plastic zip bag. Rip a hunk off and zip up the bag. Work quickly and keep the remaining fondant sealed because it dries out rapidly. Roll it to about 1/4" thickness ( I made mine a little too thick and boy was it a mouthful to eat). Use a little powdered sugar to keep it form sticking. I placed it inside the cuttlebug folder and rolled over everything again as hard as I could to get a nice impression. Cut out shape.

STEP THREE
Spray with decorating color. I sprayed from the side first to get the edges and then the top. I was only semi-successful in getting a light airbrush effect. But doesn't that look cool?

STEP FOUR
Lightly brush cookie with corn syrup, this helps the fondant stick to the cookie, and place the fondant on top. I very lightly smooshed the edges of the fondant down around the edge of the cookie to give it a more rounded look. Sorry for the blurry photo, my hands were covered with gook and the camera kept slipping.

STEP FIVE
Color your stamps the same way you would if you were using regular markers. I chose a couple colors to match the flower pot I got at Michaels on sale for 1.99. Once the entire stamp was colored I "huffed" (breath heavily on it to moisten the marker) on it and then gently pressed into a smaller flower shape cut from non-embossed fondant.

I made one at a time placing it immediately into a zip bag till I was ready to put them on the flower base. The stamped layer was then placed on the base. No corn syrup necessary, they stuck together fine alone. Insert lollipop stick into cookie base.

And here is the finished product. Not too bad eh Igor?

Thanks for stopping by and make sure to check out the other design team members blogs both from The Greeting Farm and Club Anya for some more (and different) sneak peeks. And come back tomorrow for the blog hop to celebrate TGF'S one year anyaversary . There are over 80 participants so there is sure to be lots of fun and inspiration.

OH BABY PART 2 AND IT'S A JUNGLE OUT THERE!

ITS A JUNGLE OUT THERE!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

This new little cutie is Bree, another new release available from The Greeting Farm on August first. When I first saw her I thought "oh how cute, a little explorer" and I thought of several ways I could use her that way. When I actually started coloring her I realized she was supposed to be a mail carrier because she is holding a letter in her hand. Duh, keep in mind my day job relies on my being observant LOL. I had already started on this project so I just cut off the piece of mail and gave her a little treasure map instead.

The tutorial for the little back pack was found at SCS HERE.
I thought this would be so cute as a jungle theme party gift bag. Tuck some animal crackers and a mini stuffed lion and your good to go.

Please check out the other design team member's blog for some different sneak peeks you won't want to miss.
Don't forget about the blog hop going on this Saturday and we will have more sneak peeks tomorrow so check back.

OH BABY PART 2

This card was made to go along with the gift (the cupcake box gift basket) for a new little baby girl. I used the rattle from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff baby set. I paper pieced the rattle, added a scallop circle punch on the back of the rattle and popped it up on the card. When I don't have time to color or I just want a different look, paper piecing always works well for me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY IAN

Today is my son's 9th Birthday so I wanted to wish him a very special day. He is coming to work with me and then we are leaving early to go do whatever he wants. He has chosen either the history center or chuckie cheese so we will either be educated or amused today.
I did end up buying Scrapbook Max after trying it out and I made this page of my son in about 2 minutes it was so easy and so cool.

Make yourself a great day!

CHRISTMAS IN JULY

My husband and I were supposed to go away ALONE together to belatedly celebrate our anniversary but our b-sitter (hope your feeling better mom)got sick. The upside is that I got the whole day to play in my craft room. Woo hoo!!!

This is another in the new set of Miss Anya Dressy from The Greeting Farm. As soon as I saw her I thought gingerbread house. My mind often works in mysterious ways, I don't even bother to analyse any more. Anyway, I saw that the Cupcake Craft Challenge was to do a christmas theme card and since I have a little time......

I went searching for some holiday digi paper and found this awesome G-bread house (yes, I know she is a little too tall for the door) from Scrapbook Max. I bought and downloaded it only to find that it was in a strange format and I couldn't get it to open. Talk about frustrating. I went back and found that it is part of a digital scrapbook program and I could download a trial version which I did. I have been wanting to try digi scrapbooking ever since I discovered digi paper but I am not that good with photoshop and don't have the time to learn right now. I tried the scrapbook max and it seems pretty cool, it may be just the thing for a beginner like me. I will let you know if I end up buying, it is pretty inexpensive.

At any rate I love how this turned out. It is pretty big for a card but I think I am going to try to find a mini wreath and some fake peppermints to make it more 3D and put it in a a little glass memory box for a christmas decoration.

Miss Anya Dressy will be available from TGF on August 1st. Isn't she adorable?

FFF, SNEAK PEAK, AND SCRAPPY MAGNOLIAS

When I first started making cards, before I started using stamped images, nearly all of them were a vintage, shabby chic sort of look. Though I have gotten away from it lately, it is still my favorite style of card and both of my projects today are in that genre.

FARM FRESH FRIDAY
There are some amazing new designs coming soon from The Greeting Farm and todays card is featuring one of them. Meet Miss Anya Dressy, she is one of a set of three available August 1st. She looked to me like a sweet little southern bell and that started me on the vintage trail. The new FARM FRESH CHALLENGE at TGF is to make something with flowers and butterflies.

I used a new digi kit from Raspberry Road Designs which included the sweet little rose frame. I made four copies of the frame and layered them with pop dots to create a sort of window for anya to sit in. The flower is made with a Martha Stewart heart punch. The directions can be found on Lesa Rapps blog.

Visit the TGF BLOG to get in on the FFF challenge fun, CLUB ANYA for a Club Couture Contest and the other DT members blogs to get some more Miss Anya Dresy sneak peaks, your going to love them! Don't forget the Birthday Bash, the blog hop and all the fun and prizes coming soon too.

SCRAPPY FROGS CHALLENGE BLOG

The challenge this time is to use a Magnolia stamp. Since I was in vintage mode and the Magnolia stamps just seem to be made for this type of project I did another one in this style. I wanted to prop her up on a picnic basket but I didn't have a stamp and no time to order or go buy one so I just found THIS one on the internet and printed it on my tan paper. I had to cut the handles off and reposition them but it worked pretty well and it was free, you gotta love that. The leaves are punches and I printed a couple copies of the flowers and cut them out by hand for the basket flowers. Hop on over and give the SCRAPPY FROGS CHALLENGE a try.

Have a super weekend!

OH BABY!

Happy Thursday to everyone! Isn't the summer going by way too fast? It sure is for me and my family. We have been away/busy for the past several weekends. That is usually my stamping time since I work full time and I have been cramming just like I did in college to get things done. OK, enough whining, on to the fun stuff.

Wouldn't this make the cutest baby shower favor?
The adorable baby in a bassinet is one of LINDSAY'S STAMP STUFF digital stamps. I made it super small to fit on the front of the cupcake box (template from The Digi Chick). It would be so sweet to put some small candies inside for a shower favor or tuck a cute little pair of baby socks inside for a gift.

Lindsay is still having her July special - for every $5 you spend you get one stamp free. And she has hidden another digi freebie amongst the design team member's blogs again this week (it is a good one) so go have fun finding it!

FARM FRESH FRIDAY and BIG NEWS!

This is the new sketch challenge at THE GREETING FARM BLOG. The hot air balloon is from the new Fly Away set (comes with the cute little piggy I used last week). Our wonderful DT leader Jessica provided this awesome sketch for the challenge.

For some reason I have trouble with sketch challenges in general. It took me forever to do this one and I still am not sure about it. The only thing I do know is that I love the balloon stamp and will be using it alot.

I made the inside a pop up card just because I can't seem to leave anything flat. I used the cuttlebug swirl folder on white paper and then randomly cut out cloud shapes.

Now, here is the big news... The Greeting Farm is celebrating its birthday/anniversary and here are all the details for joining in on the fun!

We are very excited to announce that the August release will be a COMBINED TGF/ Club Anya release! That's right, the Farmers, Gardeners, and Team Anya are all joining farm forces for what we hope to be our biggest and best release EVER!

LSS FREEBIE THURSDAY AND A SWAP CARD

Happy Thursday to ya! I was in a time crunch this week so I have a simple card for you using the Primitive flowers digi stamp from LINDSAY'S STAMP STUFF. I love the sweet scene in this stamp and it made it so easy to make a simple and quick card. I used the SCS sketch from this weeks challenge. If you are into sketch challenges check out our new DT member Melissa's blog for this weeks sketch challenge which Lindsay is sponsoring. The winner will receive 10 free stamps from her store. The July special of spend $5 and get a free stamp is still going on and there is another hidden freebie at one of the DT members blogs so make sure to visit them all to find your free stamp and be inspired.

On a side note, the paper I used for today's card is one of my very favorite digi paper from The Digi Chick called Lottie Dottie. I participated in a Ketto (stamping bella) card swap a while back and I used these papers for that as well so I thought I would include it in today's post.

NAVAHO ANYA and a CUPCAKE CRAFT CHALLENGE

Today's post just happened to fit the Cupcake Craft Challenge for blossoms and butterflies pretty well. This sweet new Anya will be available for purchase on Wednesday at The Greeting Farm. In the mean time the super talented CLUB ANYA design team is giving us some awesome sneak peaks and I though I would get in on the action. Club Anya will be hosting a VSN (virtual stamp night) on Tuesday at 9:00pm CST with some fun challenges and prizes. The challenges are already posted over at CLUB ANYA so that you can get a head start on the fun so hop on over for all the details.

This is another card/gift box set. The card was made in a triangle/tee pee shape with a butterfly suspended from a curled wire. Anya looked so serene and thoughtful - a little "head in the clouds" kind of look - that I thought the "thinking of you" sentiment would be perfect for this card.

The pyramid gift box is the same that I used for my 4th of July decoration. If you missed it the Tutorial can be found on Michelle Wedemeyer's blog.

The box opens from the bottom and a little treat can be tucked inside.

The VSN should be loads of fun so join in on the challenges or just for the chat if you can.

A FIN-TASTIC FARM FRESH FRIDAY!

How is that for alliteration? Happy Friday everyone! I have two posts for you today, the Scrappy Frogs Challenge and Farm Fresh Fridays Challenge for The Greeting Farm. It is a long one but I hope you find it worth the time.

The SCRAPPY FROGS CHALLENGE this time is to use "under the sea" as inspiration. I chose this digi shark image from Dustin Pike. Just a note on DP's images he is having a sale of 25$ for his whole collection of digi stamps HERE for a very short time. I made it huge (changing the size is a major advantage of digi stamps) by putting it into photoshop and enlarging it to about 7 inches from nose to fin tip. I did have to go over some of the drawing lines though because they were a little light since I made it so big. It will definitely need a custom envelope.

I cut out circles (using a compass) in its stomach to make a window card. I placed the image onto navy cardstock and hand trimmed around the outer edge and made a smaller circle to rim the larger one on the shark part.

For the inside, I used the background, fish, kelp and super cute seahorse from Fred She Said digi stamps. I enlarged the background to almost a full 8.5 X 11 inch size, printed it, and using the shark as a template, I placed the shark on the area I wanted and cut it out. Hope that makes sense. I placed that on a navy CS base also. I attached the two layers with a navy tab at the top fin so that it flips open.

The fun thing is that the shark card can stand on its own using the fins and teeth to prop it up. Sorta looks like it is diving in the water. Even though I don't love my coloring on the outside of the shark I love how the overall card turned out. Make sure you hop on over to Scrappy Frogs Challenge Blog and show off your under the sea creation, they always have some really fin-tastic prizes (sorry couldn't help myself).

Next up is the Farm Fresh Friday challenge from THE GREETING FARM.

This week the challenge is to use punches and bling and at least two GF stamps so I made this card and little gift box set. Well, the punches (lots and lots of circles) are obvious but the bling just sort of looks like salt on my balloons. Any tips on photographing glitter anyone? Anyway, this adorable pig (one of my very favorite of the new ones) is from the Fly Away set and the sentiments are from the fantastic new Butterfly Wishes set. I definitely will have more projects from both because they are so versatile for so many different types of projects.

I colored several of the image and then just randomly punched parts of them out and scattered them on the card. The sketch is an SCS challenge sketch.

I love this box. I found it on Mariska's (super talented lady) blog Sending You a Little Smile. She says she found it in a Dutch card making magazine and didn't feel that it was appropriate to show the how-to and since I have no access to Dutch mags and wouldn't be able to read them if I did, I tried to figure it out myself. It came out OK but I have to tweek it a little. Once I have it figured out I will share it with you all(hopefully next week) if you are interested.

Give the Farm Fresh Friday Challenge a try, they have super prizes too! Last weeks challenge prize was a choice of one the two sets (yea, the ENTIRE set)I used for today's project so I know this week is gonna be good too!

Have a great weekend everyone and THANKS SO MUCH for stopping by!

MAGNETIC CHERRIES AND A THURDAY HIDDEN FREEBIE

Hey everyone, countin down to the weekend? Me too! We have finally been having a little sunshine and I am looking forward to doing some much needed gardening.

This week I decided to make something practical for myself. I made several of these magnetic post-it holders for gifts last christmas but didn't get around to making one for myself. When I saw Lindsay's Stamp Stuff had this sweet cherry stamp I knew it would be perfect for a fridge post-it holder for our kitchen.

I found the idea at SCS and they are super easy to make so I will
give a brief description.

WHAT YOU NEED
Chipboard coaster
Magnetic clip
Paper and stamps to decorate
Post it notes

I layered some decorative papers together and attached it to my chipboard coaster.

Next, I used the SU scalloped circle punch as the base, layered more paper and attached my cherries. The whole thing was glued to the metal clip with my E-6000 glue. I would recommend a good craft glue because of the metal and the fact that you will be handling this part often so you will want a good solid attachment.
I didn't glue the metal clip onto the back of the chipboardbut you may want to do it so it doesn't fall off when you remove a piece of notepaper.

Here it is without the note pad. These make great gifts, everyone (teachers, riding instructors, etc.,) loved them.

Check out the other DT's Blogs for some great projects and another hidden digi freebie and Lindsay is still running her July special - buy $5 worth of stamps and get one stamp free!

FARM FRESH FRIDAY!

Congrats to Patti J on winning soccer Ian! Isn't he just the cutest? Congrats to all the other winners too, lets see some of your wonderful works of art with those new stamps! And here is a perfect opportunity to get all inky...

THE GREETING FARM will be having challenges on Farm Fresh Fridays and the first is this adorable sketch created by our fearless leader Jessica.

I, of course, used the new Soccer Ian Stamp. My son doesn't play soccer anymore but he has plenty of friends who do so this is a perfect birthday card for one of them. I looked all over for something to make the net and finally found a bag from target in the bargain bins that held rubber numbers. I used silver cardstock to make the rim.

I did a little sewing on this one. Boy do I miss sewing, no time these days to make a garment but it is nice to do a little stitching on a card once in a while.

Thanks for stopping by and have a super weekend!

SUMMER BOREDOM BUSTER and A NEW HIDDEN FREEBIE!

Just a note before I get to my Thursday post. A super humongous THANK YOU to all that hopped along with us and for all your wonderfully kind comments!!! If you left a comment yesterday be sure to check The Greeting Farm Blog to see if you are a winner! Good luck!)

If your kids are like mine you are already hearing "mom, I'm bored".
Lindsay from Lindsay's Stamp Stuff asked if the DT would like to use her stamps to make some mommy and me projects and I jumped at the chance to keep my rugr...I mean darling children occupied if just for a little while.

I found these cute decorate-your-own flower pots at Pat Catans for only a dollar. In place of the coloring images that were included in the pot kit, I had my son choose a stamp that he liked from Lindsay's collection. My son wants to either build robots or be a rockstar when he grows up. Today he was leaning toward rockstar so he chose this awesome guitar image. We printed it and then placed the paper that came with the pot on top and used it as a guide to cut out the shape. I also made it a little bit smaller so that we could layer some blue card stock behind it.

Ian colored the image and then he sponged some bright colors all around it. We also personalized it by cutting out his name on my cricut. I think he did a great job. This was his quote "It was really fun coloring the guitars and most of all sponging better than mommy". Which was true, I showed him how to sponge and his side looked much better than mine:).

Lindsay has some beautiful new stamps and she is also offering a July special of buy $5.00 worth of stamps and get one free. And the DT is still playing hide the FREEBIE so check out the other blogs (including a couple of super talented new members) and get yours. If you haven't tried digital it is a great way to try before you buy.

FLYIN WITH THE FARM BLOG HOP - WELCOME!!!

The blog hop officially starts today at 9:00 AM CST!
WELCOME to our FIRST EVER "Flyin' with the Farm" BLOG HOP!

We are super excited to be debuting FOUR NEW RELEASES and there are plenty of opportunities to WIN them, too! If you are just starting out on my blog, be sure to head on over to The Greeting Farm's blog to begin this fun Blog Hop! If you are already in on all the fun, then thanks for coming over from Sparkle's blog!

This new little hottie is Edward. Isn't he just the cutest thing? I have to admit I haven't yet read the Twilight series (though I loved vampire stories when I was a teen)but my daughter and her friends are totally smitten. Therefor, I consulted my daughter extensively while making these projects, thanks for all your help Lindsey-pie! Edward was so inspiring that I made a gift set that I thought would be fun for my daughter to give to her friends.

First up is a book mark (are those shirt-tails sticking out adorable or what?)made from the corner of a used envelope. I just cut off the corner, layered on some cardstock and ribbons and had a quick, easy gift for someone who loves to read. Restraining myself from using pop-dots was difficult but I tried to keep the bow, etc., flat so the book wouldn't be damaged when closed.

When I was digging through my punches I found the apple which was just the perfect size. It may be too tiny to read but inside the apple is a team Edward sign. I have no clue what that means but Lindsey assured me it was cool.

Next, I made a little gift box using the PIZZA BOX TUTORIAL from SCS. The only thing I did differently was to cut out an apple shape on the front and put some acetate behind it. We will probably fill it with those little chocolate hearts.

I put a magnet on the back of the "I heart Edward" oval so they could put it on their locker or fridge.

And finally, a card. Edward's awesome locks are peeking out of the torn heart. Since I didn't read the book I can't say for certain, but doesn't someone always get their heart broken in a love story?

Inside, Edward is stalked by a shadowy figure but he is just too stinkin cute to be eaten!

We have a ton of fun ways that you can WIN these stamps, including a WORD SCRAMBLE for you! Once you've completed today's hop, you will have all the letters you need to de-scramble and spell out a VERY important word ;) Once you know the answer, please email Jessica at yeahshestamps@gmail.com to let her know you've completed the blog hop and ONE lucky winner will be randomly selected to win Butterfly Wishes, her brand new stamp set with The Greeting Farm!

My clue for you today is the letter: Y

In addition, I am thrilled to be one of the FOUR NEW SUMMER GARDENERS. We all have some "candy" for you, so be sure to make it all the way to the end of today's event!
I will be giving away the new SOCCER IAN DIGI STAMP and you are going to LOVE him. Just leave a comment on my blog by midnight tonight and a winner will be chosen at random.

I hope you enjoy today's release party and have a splendid day "Flyin' with the Farm!" Releases are on sale now at The Greeting Farm's website. In addition, be sure to stop by the CLUB ANYA blog today as they have a surprise for you too! There's a new ALL-STAR in town and you WON'T want to miss him!

For now, your next stop is Jessica's blog. See you there and thanks for being a part of this fun event!
